Farming and Plants
Definya farming guide — seeds, watering, plant growth, harvests, Farming Mode, farm task scrolls, and crop supply for cooking and alchemy.
Overview
Farming is Definya’s player-owned crop loop. You plant seeds on valid soil, water growing plants, and harvest mature crops for food, vigor, alchemy inputs, and daily task progress.
This page is the main farming guide. It covers the planting loop, plant lifecycle, harvest rules, Farming Mode onboarding, and Farm Task Scrolls. For crafting recipes that consume crops, see Alchemy and Blacksmithing and the Recipes database.
Video guide
Watch: the official Alchemy and farming guide walks through planting, watering, rain timing, harvests, and how crops feed alchemy loops.
Quick start
- Get seeds and a Watering Can — Farming Mode characters start with 10 Carrot Seeds and a watering can on
farm-land; Adventure characters can buy seeds from Farmer Joe on the farm map or from other players on the Marketplace. - Find fertile soil — Farming Mode spawns on
farm-landwith plots ready; Adventure characters travel to the farm area when they want to plant. - Use a seed with Use with… on a valid soil tile to plant.
- Water the plant before its dry window expires. Rain can water outdoor crops in batches.
- Wait for growth stages (Seed → Sprout → Young → Mature).
- Harvest when Mature. Keep inventory space free so crops land in your bag instead of on the ground.
- Feed harvests into cooking, alchemy, food for vigor, or Farm Task Scroll objectives.
Planting
Planting starts from a seed item. The basic loop is:
- Use a seed with a fertile soil tile through Use with….
- The game creates a plant entity in the world.
- The plant tracks its owner, position, lifecycle state, growth points, required growth points, watering state, and texture state.
Only valid soil tiles accept seeds. If planting fails, check that the tile is empty, you are in range, and the seed matches the plot type.
Plant lifecycle
Plants progress through these lifecycle stages:
- Seed
- Sprout
- Young
- Mature
- Dead when neglected
A Mature plant is harvestable. Some plants regrow after harvest and return to an earlier stage; others are removed once harvested.
Watering and growth
Plants grow by accumulating growth points. Watering tints the tile visually and allows growth during the growth window. Rain can water outdoor plants automatically in batches.
The plant system uses these timing concepts:
- A minimum time between watering cycles.
- A maximum time after watering during which the plant can grow.
- A maximum no-water time after which a plant can die.
- Cleanup of dead plants after they have remained dead for the configured removal window.
Harvesting
When a plant is Mature, your farming skill helps determine the harvest. If your inventory is full, harvested items may drop nearby instead.
Harvesting can also:
- Grant farming skill progress.
- Reset regrowable plants to an earlier stage.
- Remove non-regrowable plants.
- Stop regrowth when a plant reaches its regrowth limit.
Crops can restore vigor when eaten. Some farming foods grant extra vigor on top of their normal food tier — useful for long hunt or gather sessions. See Vigor and XP and Consumables, Potions, and Buffs.
Plant types
Known food plants include:
- Cabbage
- Carrot
- Eggplant
- Green Grape
- Red Grape
- Potato
- Pumpkin
- Strawberry
- Tomato
- Turnip
- Watermelon
Magical plants used in higher-tier recipes include:
- Bloodroot Blossom
- Duskwisp Herb
- Sunspire Lotus
Exact plant stats, growth factors, harvest output, seasons, and regrowth behavior come from current game data. Search crop names in the Items database when you need exact outputs.
Farming Mode and farm-land
Farming Mode is a character-creation variation — not a separate risk mode. It changes where you start and how early tutorials and scrolls are framed.
| Topic | Farming Mode | Adventure Mode |
|---|---|---|
| Start map | farm-land | Faction starter area |
| Starter kit | 10 Carrot Seeds, 1 Watering Can, 5 Farm Task Scrolls | 5 Daily Task Scrolls |
| First tutorial | Farming lesson on creation | Level 5 Farming lesson |
| Death respawn | Returns to farm-land | Returns to saved initial scene |
Farming characters can still quest, fight, craft, and explore. The mode nudges onboarding toward crops — it does not lock you out of other systems.

Farm Task Scrolls
Farm Task Scrolls add one extra farming collect daily task when used. They only roll harvest objectives (potatoes, carrots, grapes, pumpkins, and similar) — never kill, map visit, or craft tasks.
| Source | Notes |
|---|---|
| Farming Mode starter pouch | 5 farm scrolls at creation |
| Farmer Joe (farm NPC shop) | Buy scrolls alongside seeds and tools |
| Farming collect daily tasks | Many harvest tasks drop 1–3 farm scrolls on completion |
Farm scrolls share the 5 extra tasks per day cap with Daily Task Scrolls. Completing harvest tasks can fund more scrolls the same day — a self-sustaining farm loop.
Details and scroll rules: Quests and Daily Tasks — Farm Task Scrolls.
Supply chains
Farming connects to the rest of progression:
- Cooking — food tiers and vigor recovery from crop meals.
- Alchemy — herbs, grapes, and magical plants in potion and item recipes.
- Daily tasks — collect-item objectives and Farm Task Scroll payouts.
- Marketplace — sell surplus harvests or buy seeds when you are between planting cycles.
Pair world gathering with farming so crafting never stalls on a single material. See Crafting and Gathering Overview and Mining, Fishing, and Lumberjacking.
Practical tips
- Do not plant more than you can water and harvest on schedule.
- Check plants after rain or watering windows — growth depends on recent watering state.
- Keep inventory space available before harvesting.
- Save surplus crops for alchemy recipes instead of selling everything early.
- Run a Farming Mode alt if your Adventure main needs steady herb and food supply.
